The roofers (not to be confused with WOOFers) arrived from Campbell River by water taxi this morning. With Kelly having lost so many days because of the rain, the guys (sans David) had their work cut out for them as they tried to stay ahead of the roofers by laying sheeting for the asphalt shingles. They accomplished a lot – an amazing amount, really – and expect to be done before the next water taxi arrives on Wednesday afternoon.
I helped Linda a little bit with the mowing (after finishing weeding the deck) and raked some dead grass so it would be easier the next time she mowed working up a great sweat (the humidity is really high and I was eaten by the mosquitoes, which are really bad this year after such a wet winter). David stayed at the pub attending the bar and moorage while fixing an old bass guitar Mark had brought back from storage in Campbell River – his own personal guitar technician. Pay attention kids because this is what you get for not being as well-rounded – manual labour.
I went to the boat to shower and pick Sally up for her evening walk. When I got back to shore, the roofers were at the pub and things were beginning to pick up. Les, an old-timer up here who has been plying these waters for over thirty years and is full of stories to tell, was holding court and keeping everybody entertained while Mark threw some hamburgers on the grill. Cynthia invited us to join them for dinner, so we did. With the nice weather, we all sat on the deck enjoying the view and each other's company – a really great way to spend the Fourth of July
