A baby seal adopted Cambria as it's mother yesterday and we could hear it crying throughout the night as it tried to suckle the boat and started to worry that it had been abandoned. David and another couple, who had also been watching the pup, went out of the anchorage in the dinghy to find a cell phone signal to call BC Parks. There's nothing they (or we) can do but, based on the pup's level of activity, they believe the mother has been back to feed it several times. Apparently, she wouldn't come around if people were nearby. We all feel a lot better after the conversation, or maybe it's the fact that it stopped raining. Yes. That's right. The sky broke late this morning and the rain has FINALLY stopped...for now.
Our little friend was still hanging around the boat in the afternoon until David fell into the water within feet of him and we haven't seen or heard him since. How did he fall in the water? He's a klutz, that's how. With the improved weather, we decided to take the kayaks out. He was already in his as I was walking mine to the stern of the boat and, in an effort to help keep my line untangled from the dinghy, he over-reached and flipped over. At least the water wasn't too cold, but his clothes got heavy very quickly and I had to hold onto the scruff of his neck and help pull him into the dinghy...after I finished laughing, that is.
