Prideaux Haven, Desolation Sound Marine Park

We woke up to a beautiful morning – no wind, sunshine, blue sky all-around – and a high of 1028 MB on the barometer, a long way up from the 993 MB we saw just a few days ago. There's no doubt. Whether they plan to stay in Desolation Sound or move south, everyone, ourselves included, would be leaving Grace Harbour today.
Phil and Kate were the first to go and then it was Salubrious' turn. We watched them up-anchor and slowly motor out of the harbour, saddened by the sight. For the better part, the best part really, of the past two months we've been together and will miss their company greatly. Though I'm sure we'll continue to have a good time, it just won't be the same without them. The third boat was next, leaving only us. We waited a few minutes to enjoy the solitude of the anchorage before bringing our anchor up as well. And then we motored off, the last boat standing ... a hard-earned honour.
We returned to Prideaux Haven and found the anchorage empty of all other boats so we dropped our hook in the same spot as we had just a couple of weeks ago and revelled in the isolation. After being cooped up for the better part of a week, we launched the kayaks intending to take a paddle around the anchorage when a dinghy appeared from Melanie Cove. We chatted with the couple, Rod and Sandra from Powell River, talking about the recent storms. But it was getting late, so David went back to the boat while I paddled down the channel to Laura Cove relishing the silence before returning to the boat myself.
