We left the dock at 6:30 this morning for a 7:11 am slack tide at Malibu Rapids. We were the last boat to leave, everyone else having dropped lines at 6:00, making us wonder if we had missed some vital piece of information last night while having drinks aboard Bluefin. But it wasn't long before we caught up with the rest of the outgoing fleet and, as we transited the narrows, we saw very little current –unlike the previous two afternoon slacks when the current was still running at 3 knots – so it was a good start to a very long day.
It was an uneventful passage. Boring and uneventful, which is always good. But it was another overcast day, so we weren't able to enjoy the view as we motored south which made the 40 nm down-inlet even longer.
Rather than anchor in Ballet Bay, our regular spot when travelling north, we chose a new anchorage off the mainland called Maude Bay. The bottom is rocky and there's a lot of sea grass, so Ballet will be our choice from here on but it's a convenient stop for one night. Besides, Bluefin's here which makes up for what the anchorage lacks in beauty with good company, and we had a nice evening together aboard Cambria visiting and telling tales.
Tomorrow ,David and Julie will move up to Lund and we'll go down to Ballet Bay in effort to escape the mozzies which have overtaken Maude Bay. We need to re-provision in Westview and, although the main stores are open on Sunday, the butcher shop will be closed. And, let's be honest, it's all about the sausages...and, of course, the chocolate.
