Mowing the lawns at Shoal Bay.

The next time I volunteer to mow an acre of lawns, I'll have to remember to ask if the mower is self-propelled first.  I really will.

We've been living aboard for ten years now, which is exactly the number of years it's been since I've mowed anything, so I thought it would be fun and a good way to exercise.   I had planned to do a lot of hiking up to the lookout but, because of the cougar sighting, that's out.  Had it been a bear, no worries.   But a cougar.  Forget about it!  They'll sneak up behind you and, before you know it, you're lunch.  Make all the noise you want.  They don't care. Whereas bears, even grizzlies, will avoid noise.  So mowing it was!

While I mowed, David played the guitar and tended the pub.   Not that anyone came by, but somebody had to serve him a beer from time to time.  And Sally played the role of porch dog.  It's clear that she loves living on the boat – whenever we come back from visiting our families in the winter, she squeaks with joy – but to see her in this environment always makes me happy.  It wears her out though.  It was after seven o'clock by the time we were ready to go back to the boat and she led the way, went straight to bed and hasn't been heard from since.

After another late dinner, we put in a movie and called it a night ourselves.  The barometer's falling which means we have more rain on the way soon.  That may not be a bad thing.   At least it's a good excuse to hold up on the boat and take some time away because, already feeling the pain from mowing, a day off may be in order.
