The past few days have been a blur of activity as we crossed the border into Canada and slowly made our way north to the city of Nanaimo where we plan to have Cambria hauled out of the water tomorrow to fix the infamous hole in the boat.
We’re currently anchored in Mark Bay, just off Newcastle Island, but will move to Stones Boatyard tomorrow afternoon with the tide. To be better prepared, we drove the dinghy up the channel this morning to take a look at the facilities and talk to Shari and Ian, the owners.
Ian took a look at the fitting from the through-hull that we’d brought along and was able to break an end off with a pair of pliers. The bronze had turned pink and powdery from corrosion – a very bad sign. Not only will it need to be replaced, David will have to check and possibly replace the remaining sixteen before we can go back in the water.
