the Inside Passage the San Juan Islands

Garrison Bay, San Juan Island

An aerial view of Garrison Bay.

We’re only two days away from Poulsbo, but it may as well be a lifetime … the scene has changed so dramatically.

Our new anchorage is dotted with a smattering of houses on its western shore, rather than with crowded neighbourhoods.  And although we’re sharing it with several other boats, it’s very quiet.  There’s no traffic, only the occasional buzz of a distant float plane or boat.  No generators churning out amperage from the sterns of nearby boats.  No police sirens blasting in the distance.  Nothing.  Absolutely nothing.

On the eastern shore, there’s a national historical park with trails and fields where Sally can run until her old muscles ache or a scent catches her attention, and I can hike to a hill overlooking the bay.  There’s even a small dock where David can assemble his new kayak if the mood strikes him.

For us, it’s heaven – or the closest we’ve been since tying up the boat for the winter last November.  And it’s only going to get better from here.
