Desolation Sound
Gorge Harbour, Cortes Island

After another beautiful day in Isabel Bay, we reluctantly upped anchor this morning and made our way to Gorge Harbour on Cortes Island to meet Jeff and Karry. As much as we both want to see them and spend more time together, we were loathe to leave aplace that was so quiet and peaceful, for such a busy anchorage like Gorge.
But catching up with each other has proven to be difficult and we just learned that they’ll be leaving Desolation Sound by mid-week, so off we went. There wasn’t a breath of wind on the water but you could see the next round of weather moving in from the west. A low pressure center over the Gulf of Alaska will be heading southeastward and they’re forecasting winds of 10 – 15 knots for the area starting sometime after midnight. Gorge Harbour is a well-protected anchorage, so we should only see a fraction of that and aren’t too concerned, despite our (over) reaction earlier in the week.
After four hours of motoring and making water, we arrived and dropped our hook in our usual spot. The trip was tiring for David and his shoulder, which seems to be getting worse rather than better and is now knotted up in several different places and is causing numbness in his right hand. Along with the pain comes fatigue… and a bit of crankiness. But he sucked it up anyway and went to shore with me and Sally for a walk around the property with Jeff and Karry and dinner aboard Fantasy later on. It was a nice day overall, but clearly took its toll on David, so we said our good-nights early and crawled into bed.
