Today is our final day of camping and I, for one, am happy to see the end of this adventure.  Calling it a failure would bean exaggeration, but just barely.  Lack of planning showed through every step of the way and I clearly under estimated how difficult it would be to camp in a tent for three weeks – especially with the wind and cold temperatures.  That’s not to say we didn’t have some great experiences – spending time with Mike and Lisa, Chiricahua National Park, White Sands National Monument and Carlsbad Caverns – but with all of the negatives, it wasn’t worth the time, effort or expense.  And I doubt that I would go tothe trouble to do it again.  Not like this anyway.

We did manage to spend time with Chris and the girls while we were here, but not as much as we would have liked – life always seems to get in the way.  They came out to the campsite yesterday for dinner and to sit around the fire. McKayla claimed to be bored by the great outdoors, but had no complaints tonight when they came back to make S’mores.  And Alyssa is already a little camper at the ripe old age of three.  Although we’d like to have each of them spend time aboard Cambria someday, it looks like Alyssa will be the one who falls in love with our lifestyle.

As always, it was good to see everybody again (it’s been a year since our last visit) and sad to say good-bye, but the boat is calling along with plenty of work to keep us busy over the next month while we prepare to drop our lines and head north.
