Shoal Bay International Music Festival

David performing at the Shoal Bay International Music Festival.

With the Shoal Bay International (that's the US and Canada) Music Festival on Saturday, we upped anchor late Friday morning, waved good-bye to Bill and Sylvia and slowly jogged up Nodales Channel arriving to an entirely different view from out last visit:  The dock was completely full with boats rafted up to each other two to three deep and at least ten boats anchored along the western shore.  Our regular spot, however, was open as if someone had been expecting us.

Things have certainly changed in the month or so that we were gone.  It's more organized and less chaotic.  Mark currently has three WOOFers (Workers On Organic Farms) staying with him now – free labour in exchange for room and board.  And, with the focus shifted from building the house, which they decided to put on hold after having the roof put on, it's clear that some of the other projects he wanted to tackle this season have been given a fighting chance.

Unlike last year when it was cold and rainy, Saturday turned out to be a beautiful day and people showed up in droves.  David was busy for the most part and clearly had a good time setting up the sound system, sitting in with Steve Taylor (a guitar player from Heriot Bay), and MC'ing before his set with Kelly and a few others began at 8:00 pm.  It had been fairly subdued throughout the day with most groups playing a type of folk music, but once the guys took the stage and began playing Mustang Sally, it didn't take long for people to jump out of their seats and start dancing.  By 9:30 pm, I couldn't take the cold any longer, so I took the kayak back to Cambria.  David was only a few hours behind me, getting home by midnight ,but the music carried on until the wee hours of the morning.  And by this afternoon, much like last year, most everybody was gone, quickly erasing the evidence of a great party.
