Our plan was to return to Poulsbo for a few days to get organized so we could move the boat back up to Port Townsend and haul-out for her regular bottom paint and an insurance evaluation/survey while the weather was still settled. But you know what they say about best-laid plans....
The day after we arrived, David started to come down with a chest cold and looked like he'd been run over by a bus – I wasn't far behind. What I had mistaken for indifference and a desire to stay in Canada was actually fatigue and, by Tuesday, I was sick as well. For several weeks we battled congestion, runny noses, sore throats, coughs and overall exhaustion while the boat sat in her berth. The transition from being free at anchor to being tied up in a marina is always difficult and being stuck inside day in and day out made us feel like prisoners in our own home. For the first time in months,we were bored and restless wondering what the hell we were doing here.
Up until now we've had some beautiful fall weather which exacerbated our discontent, but a major change is on its way now that we're feeling better and in a position to move. According to the weather forecast, we're in for a stormy week as another frontal system from Alaska bears down on us without a lot of hope for improvement in the weeks to come. Needless to say, our hopes of hauling-out the boat this year have been quashed.
