We took Cambria out yesterday for our first test-run. Trying to coordinate currents, tides and destination was more of a challenge than I expected, so I opted for the easy solution which was leaving with the tide and travelling north to Admiralty Inlet rather than the southern portion of Puget Sound. On paper, it made perfect sense: we already had the route charted; Port Ludlow is a well-protected anchorage; there's a trail nearby which takes you to a waterfall; and last, but certainly not least, we could take the bus into Port Townsend for the day and have lunch at Waterfront Pizza. Unfortunately, I failed to take the forecast into account which means we spent the morning motoring against the wind rather than having a beautiful sail down to Blake Island or Gig Harbor. As usual, David didn't say a word, he just let the penny drop and then smiled.
Our efforts didn't go unrewarded, and we had a nice night in Port Ludlow. It's a beautiful anchorage and very quiet - always a welcomed change from a marina. Unfortunately, the next weather system is moving in faster than anticipated, so we had to leave with the tide this afternoon or risk being stuck here for days and missing next weekend's Viking Fest. It's a bit of a disappointment (especially about the pizza), but we both enjoyed our first night in nearly nine months at anchor and would come back again.
