Prideaux Haven, Desolation Sound Marine Park

We left Walsh Cove just after lunch Tuesday afternoon and motored south down Waddington Channel to Prideaux Haven – our favourite destination in Desolation Sound – where we met up with our friends, Jeff and Karry, Wednesday.
They arrived around noon and we took a tour of their new boat, Fantasy, before taking Sally for a hike from Melanie to Laura Cove. The old girl did really well for any dog, let alone one who’s 16, but we had to stop before the last five or ten minutes because she was getting tired. By that time it was close to four o’clock and Happy Hour, so we had a couple of drinks aboard Cambria while pouring over maps and charts of the area to give them a better feel for their current cruising grounds and an idea about where they might want to go next.
The weather is still sub-par with southerly breezes, overcast skies and occasional showers. The barometer rose earlier in the week but fell again and the forecast for the weekend, once promising, is falling apart. But the days have still been nice enough for the kayaks and we spent Thursday and today exploring the different bays and channels together. Unfortunately the nights, or last night rather, has been a different story. David was up until 4:30 this morning keeping an eye on the anchor as the wind picked up and blew from the west.
Jeff and Karry will be leaving in the morning to take a Tiki Tour of the area and we’ll follow later in the day to time our entrance to our next destination, Roscoe Bay. Leaving Prideaux Haven is always difficult for us, it’s such a beautiful anchorage, but there’s a group of 15 or 16 boats from Silva Bay Yacht Club moving in our direction so seeking out a less popular destination is a good idea, even if it isn’t the most desirable one.
